Opening PowerSchool Exports in Excel

Mac OS X
Safari
Currently, Safari does not have the functionality to export information automatically from PowerSchool to Excel; however, use the following procedure to transfer information quickly from the browser to an Excel spreadsheet when you export information.
- Export information from PowerSchool using Quick Export, Export Using a Template, Direct Database Export, Direct Database Access
- When the information appears in a new browser window, choose File > Save As and save the file on your desktop
- Control-click or right-click the exported file (student.export.text) on your desktop
- Click Open With > Other
- In the Choose Application window, click the Enable menu, click All Applications, and select Microsoft Excel
- Click Open
Firefox
- Use Quick Export to export data from PowerSchool
- On your desktop, control-click or right-click the name of the exported file (student.export.text)
- Click Open with > Other
- In the Choose Application window, click the Enable menu, and choose All Applications
- Click Microsoft Excel
- Select the check box for Do this automatically for files like this from now on
- Click Open
From now on, when Firefox asks if you want to open or save the file, you can choose Open, and the file will open in Excel.
Windows
Internet Explorer
- Export information from PowerSchool using Quick Export, Export Using a Template, Direct Database Export, Direct Database Access
- Save the export file to your desktop
- On your desktop, right-click the file (student.export.text)
- Click Open With, and click Choose Program
- Find and click Microsoft Excel
- Select Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
- Click OK
From now on, when Internet Explorer asks if you want to open or save the file, you can choose Open, and the file will open in Excel
Firefox
- Use Quick Export to export data from PowerSchool
- On the Opening student.export.text window, click Open With and then EXCEL.EXE or Microsoft Excel (if Microsoft Excel is not in the menu, click Other)
- From the Choose Helper Application window, click Browse
- Find and click Microsoft Excel
- In the Opening student.export.text window, select Always use the selected program to open this kind of file
- Click OK
From now on, when Firefox asks if you want to open or save the file, you can choose Open, and the file will open in Excel.
